Threaded connections - methods of preparation

Threaded connections are connections enabling multiple disjoint disassembly and reassembly - so to ensure that such a possibility should be properly exact thread.

The thread on the elements can be done in two ways:

  • machining - we bring the thread turning tool using the appropriate terms, or do it manually by using tools such as tap or thread beam die; advantage of this method is its simplicity (simple equipment) and the possibility of making a thread of any parameters (in the case of external threads - screws), while the disadvantage is the formation of waste material (chips)
  • plastic working (roll) - a thread is made by burnishing rollers having a good outline of the profile; the advantages of this method is the lack of waste (chips), and thus mass-production, and the use of the phenomenon of density - which increases the strength of the thread made while the disadvantages are primarily instrumentation (rolls and rolls for threading with the right profile - hence the use of burnishing only in mass production) and the ability to perform only the external threads.
